"A Future Together": Gran Sasso and IED Roma

The return to craftmanship, overturning and unhinging the traditional rules of tailoring. Rethinking haute couture, pursuing the quest for complete freedom: this and much more was Altaroma, the exclusive fashion runway of IED, the Roman European Design Institute. Held on July 11, 2022 at the Ex Caserma-Guido Reni, the event saw the best graduates of the courses in Fashion Design and Jewelry Design of IED Roma showcase the outcome of their three-year educational journey. Within it, was presented the innovative project "A Future Together" by Maglificio Gran Sasso.

"A Future Together" is the partnership between Maglificio Gran Sasso and IED Roma. A collaboration, born a year ago, that sets forth and reinforces the constant link between manufacture, Italian design institutes and the historic knitwear factory Gran Sasso. The natural meeting of experimentation, innovative ideas and the quality of Italian manufacturing tradition. With "A Future Together," IED Rome and Maglificio Gran Sasso have (re)imagined the future of the historic made in Italy clothing brand, entrusting young designers' creativity and willingness to experiment with finding the meeting point and connection with the quality of Gran Sasso's ancient manufacturing technologies. Conceived by Ludovica La Rocca, John Ray Tiva, and Martina Proia, "A Future Together" brings about the return to craftsmanship, combined with an eye to the sustainability of yarns, dyes and fabrics. These, in fact, are the cornerstones of the collaboration between IED and Maglificio Gran Sasso.

One of the goals of this project was to conceive a "knitwear 365" collection. This led to the creation of a series of garments with a very clear imprint, designed to overcome the concept of seasonality and be usable 365 days a year. A revolution in the world of knitwear, always with great care and attention to sustainability.

The project in collaboration with Gran Sasso fits perfectly into the idea behind Altaroma. A manifesto of imperfection, in which the classic canons of tailoring are distorted, if not completely overturned, to create a new vision of beauty, a eulogy to imperfect beauty, which uses tradition to affirm novelty. An event in which going beyond the label is at the heart of every work, in which haute couture goes hand in hand with the off-the-wall flair of the designers. Ideas in which, however, remains a link with the tradition of the territory, in the workmanship, weaves, yarns and processing techniques, and of which Gran Sasso and IED's "A Future Together" project is the perfect synthesis.
