IED Rome and Maglificio Gran Sasso

In 2022 the knitwear factory Gran Sasso turns 70. The historic knitwear and clothing brand, a consolidated icon of Made in Italy and high craftsmanship at national and international level, relies on the European Institute of Design in Rome to celebrate its anniversary. The partnership between IED Rome and Maglificio Gran Sasso will lead to the birth of four special knitwear collections, two for men and two for women, signed by four Fashion Design graduates, who are developing them as thesis projects.

The title chosen is “A FUTURE TOGETHER” for a collaboration that not only characterizes the brand, making it extremely innovative, but also provides feedback that creates added value: a virtuous circle that feeds itself, in a new and highly creative way. The style office of Gran Sasso, Paola Pattacini Coordinator of the Fashion School from IED Rome and the designers working on it, will present the collections at the July edition of Pitti Uomo, brought forward by the moodboards exhibition in the January edition.

The inspirations of the collections:

MYOPIA by Adelina Ceban, inspired by the phenomenon of visual refraction. By exploiting the overlapping of dyes and colors, a hazy imagery will be created, just like the blurred image of a myopic eye. The intention is to create a minimal capsule with great attention to the study of colors and techniques, which makes even an emmetropic (normal) eye feel confused and out of focus.

MEMORIES by Ludovica La Rocca rummaging through the memories, the ones preserved and those forgotten, retraces the human need to preserve the memory of one’s life and the fear of forgetting important bits.

KABAYAN by John Ray Tiva explores the particular socio-cultural context and the tribal and folkloristic character of the Filipino tribes, between indigenous aspects and Spanish and Islamic influences. The term kabayan means “fellow countryman”, has a value of social union and fully defines the collection that aims to unite, through fashion, the variety of the Philippines.

NET by Martina Proia investigates the double meaning of the net, intended both as a cage and as a protection. The collection intends to create a path of liberation from a cumbersome net up to the achievement of nudity, made with openwork, floating stitches, inlays, embroidery made with knitting yarns and encrustations.
